About

Wear in Tear was born out of my struggle to find the perfect outfit to wear to the hospital. 10 years ago I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis and a few years after a laundry list of other, more severe, diagnoses followed - Vasculitis, Osteoporosis, Pulmonary Fibrosis, and Dermatomyositis. They were all manageable until late 2010 when I had a flare up and suddenly lost the ability to walk. During recovery, my wardrobe choices became sweatpants and hoodies. Faced with a grim future of elastic and drawstrings, I decided that I would still be stylish and not let my diagnosis define me. Despite my illness, I made an effort to regularly dress up, statement jewelry and all, and soon after began to return to myself. Fashion is helping to heal me and I chronicle the experience right here. Wear in Tear is my way of showing the world that illness is not identity, that fashion is more than handbags and high heels, and that there truly is medicine in doing what you love.
